Agonda Beach Cow

After a few 12-hour 3rd class train and bus rides on scorching hot days with no air conditioning, we stopped in Agonda Beach for some relaxation, a shower, and a comfortable bed. This guy welcomed us on our first night by posing for a sunset shot with the Arabian Sea as his backdrop.

The cow is respected as a sacred animal in India and is believed to be a symbol of the earth – because it gives so much yet asks nothing in return. It’s allowed to roam unharmed, grazing unmindfully on the roadside grasses, vegetation, and burning garbage. Stray and homeless cows are even supported by temples, especially in southern India.
